About the Xcel Energy Cove
We’re proud of our partnership and storied history with the Wild and the Xcel Energy Center. This experience is the next step in that journey.
The Xcel Energy Cove
We’re not waiting for the future, we’re busy building it. That’s why we’re here. Hung from the ceiling are thousands of mini wind turbines. Each one symbolizes our commitment to provide 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050. Renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, are going to help us get to that goal.
Using our Windsource® technology, the Xcel Energy Center offsets over 1 million pounds of CO2. That’s the equivalent of:
- 198 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled
- 74 million smartphones charged
- 98 households’ yearly electricity
This space is meant for recharging. There are over 50 places to wirelessly charge your phone using Intentek technology. Simply place your phone on an Energy Swirl, and let the chargers work for you.
Before Darby Hendrickson scored the first goal here at the Xcel Energy Center, we iced a partnership with the Wild that has lasted decades. We share the same values. We want to do the best for our customers, our community, and the State of Minnesota.
“The people at Xcel Energy have been incredible throughout, they understood what hockey means to MN, and what this building means to our community…It was the perfect marriage of 2 companies wanting to make our community better and be truly supportive”
- Matt Majka, President MN Wild

Renewable Energy and EVs
We’re working tirelessly on our carbon-free goals. See how we’re changing the world with renewable energy and electric vehicles.
Renewable Energy
You’re already using renewable energy, you just might not know it. At Xcel Energy, we’re constantly innovating to provide cleaner energy to all our customers. We’re consistently ranked as one of the top producers of wind energy nationwide. We have solar farms across all our territories, and we’re already exploring new ways to bring Hydrogen power to industries that haven’t been able to use renewables in the past.
You can help reducing the carbon footprint by learning more about renewable programs in your area.

Did you know that driving electric is one of the easiest and most cost-efficient ways to reduce your carbon output? Our goal is to power 1.5 million EVs by 2030, and with advancements from the auto industry, it can be less expensive to own and maintain an electric car than a 100% gasoline-powered one. Most electric vehicles charge for less $1 per gallon.
We also offer off-peak charging and other rebates just for owning and charging your EV. Check out how you can benefit from EV ownership.
